On April 27, 2011, several southern and central States were devastated by tornados and floods. This disaster left many American without homes, clothes, food, and medication. In May 2011, Brother Charles J. Brown, Director for the Eastern Region Church Ushers' Association made an appeal to the membership to lend a helping hand to these fellow Americans affected by these calamities. The membership of this church usher ministry responded with a monetary donation of $2,600.
After research, the Association decided to share its love gifts to the residents of Birmingham, AL - specifically those impacted in Pratt City, AL. The Association sent Director Brown to Pratt City, AL on August 23rd to personally deliver WALMART gift cards to the Special Relief Fund for Pratt City. Director Brown was accompanied by Southern Region Director, Brother Harold Hester and Past National President Willie Joe Minnifield. Ms. Helen Lyles, who serves as the Center's Office Manager, was very appreciative for the love shared by the Association. She indicted that many of the residents did not have insurance to rebuild, and had left their homes with just the clothes on their backs.
