On Saturday, July 2, 2016, Eastern Region Director Charles J. Brown traveled to White Sulphur Spring, West Virginia, one of the recent flooded communities. The journey was a 4 hour drive each way but the cause was worth the ride. Many homes are inhabitable. Home contents are piled outside of the soon to be molded structures. FEMA was there handing out cleaning supplies, food, and water. Many, many residents were left with only the clothes on their backs.

This town is the home of the Greenbrier Resort (10,000 acres) that annually sponsors The Greenbrier Classic Golf Tournament. The Resort was spared because of its location, canceled one of its tournaments, and had opened a portion of the Resort temporarily to the displaced residents.

With an approved donation of $500 from the Region’s General Fund and the assistance of some members, the Eastern Region was able to present to White Sulphur Spring community WALMART Gift cards totaling $1,000. Special thanks to those individuals who provided the additional assistance.

Attached are pictures of the WALMART Gift Cards given to the Point-of-Contact, the Reverend Matthews Watts of Charleston, WV, Pastor of Grace Bible Church and to Pastors of New Vision Baptist Church and 1st Baptist Church. Both churches are located in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Reverend Watts is helping in the coordination of the relief efforts within the White Sulphur Spring's African-American community as well as others flooded areas of West Virginia.

Visiting the site really reinforces how blessed we are.
